The Dust-to-Digital Foundation and the University of California, Santa Barbara have partnered to make thousands of historic recordings freely accessible to the public.
This is huge. As someone who has pursued similar work in the Tap Dance world, I can attest to the amount of resources and effort that goes into what you all have accomplished. Congratulations on the milestone!
I have been purchasing music from you for quite a while and being a lifelong music collector growing up and living in Santa Barbara my whole life, hearing this news makes me very happy. I have been following UCSB’s DAHR collection for many years and now to have Joe Bussard’s collection to listen to is amazing! Thank you for all you do!
Thank you, Jay! It's so cool that you're from and in Santa Barbara and are familiar with DAHR already! I hope you'll enjoy the Dust-to-Digital Foundation's additions to the database!
Speaking of how inspiring ya'll are, I spotted this aside in a Times book review today—by none other than Nick Hornby:
"On the Instagram account Dust-to-Digital, artists from all over the world are shown making music in the most unlikely places, sometimes with the most unlikely musical instruments, and you end up thinking about the inevitability of art, how people have to make it somehow."
Y'all are amazing. You bring a lot of joy to so many, like me, by not just caring but *acting on* that sense of caring. Much like the great collectors/archivists of the past that you mention. Thank you.
Incredible ya’ll!
Thanks, Zopi!
